Orlando Pirates provide update on injured stars

Orlando Pirates midfielders Mpho Makola and Thabo Qalinqe are nearing their recoveries, and fighting against time to be fully fit.

The Soweto giants have provided an update on their injured stars, who are continuing to receive treatment. While the duo are close to making a return, several other players will have to wait a while longer before getting back to full fitness.

According to Bucs' medical team, Makola - who is recovering from a back injury - has resumed running with the squad and will be assessed on whether he will be able to undergo full training. The playmaker last played in the league encounter against Ajax Cape Town where the Ghost suffered a 3-0 defeat.

The club's official website also stated that Qalinqe is one step away from making a full recovery and has been cleared by the team physio to begin his strengthening and conditioning.

Other players on the mend include new signee Diamond Thopola, who has been ruled out for a couple of days owing to a quad strain he suffered in the Nedbank Cup match against Ajax Cape Town.

Utility player Abbubaker Mobara is also another one who according to the Bucs website is nearing full recovery from his groin injury, while defender Gladwin Shitolo is receiving treatment for his aggravated ankle injury.

Pirates are away to Chippa United in their next league encounter at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium scheduled for 25 February 2018. Bucs will hope to have Makola in the fold as they look to improve on their second spot on the league table.
