Kaizer Chiefs Remain Keen On Signing Bloemfontein Celtic Midfielder Thapelo Morena

Kaizer Chiefs are expected to reignite their interest in Bloemfontein Celtic winger, Thapelo Morena.

The 22-year-old has been impressive for Celtic during the campaign so far, although some of his inspiring performances have been somewhat overshadowed by the team's disappointing Absa Premiership form.

Following what has been a disappointing season for Chiefs during Steve Komphela's first season in charge of the side, it is believed that the club will want to reinforce the squad by adding a few more quality youngsters during the transfer window.

Prior to this season, some of the team's signings have failed to live up to expectations so far. The likes of Siyanda Xulu, Bongani Ndulula, Keegan Ritchie and Edward Manqele have contributed little to the team's cause so far.

Chiefs have been knocked out of the CAF Champions League, following their 0-0 draw with ASEC Mimosas in Abidjan on Sunday having lost the first-leg tie 1-0 at the FNB Stadium on March 12.

Elimination from the continental competition means that the only remaining trophy to play for is the league. However, with Mamelodi Sundowns having opened up a 13-point gap over them at the summit of the table, and Bidvest Wits having accumulated nine points more than them with seven games to go this season, it has become increasingly unlikely that Chiefs will win anything this season.

Amakhosi have failed to score a single goal in their last five games in all competitions, having lost four in a row before their goalless stalemate in Africa.

Morena is one of the players believed to have been earmarked as a transfer target, as the team will be aiming for an improved run next season.

Morena has made 19 league starts for Celtic and scored three goals so far this season. The Randfontein- born player has been called up to Owen da Gama's South African national U23 team for their upcoming international friendly match with Brazil, as part of the preparations for the 2016 Olympics.

Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to have also shown an interest in the player, although Chiefs are expected to make the first move.
