German-based South African defender, Claudio de Almeida, has spoken about the progress he is making playing away from home.

As previously reported by the Siya crew, the 20-year-old defender joined VFL Osnabruck II and has been making a name for himself in the German club's youth side. He has dual citizenship (South African and Portuguese) and has been enjoying regular game-time as the season approaches its end.

He told the Siya crew, "There are only a few more games left 'til the end of the season, so it will be good to go home for a little bit. There is no place like home!

"But football is going well and it is very different to South Africa. I am trying my best here, as nothing in life is ever easy.

"The football here is very different - very structured and very disciplined. Everything has to have a purpose.

"I must admit that sometimes I miss the improvisation or the creativity back in South Africa, where players have more freedom, but I am learning here every day."

Almeida is a product of the SuperSport United academy and left Mzansi at the age of 18 to join up with Osnabruck II and has seen an improvement in his career.

It is believed that the club's senior team technical staff has been keeping an eye on the player's performances and he could make the big step up as soon as next season.
