Former Mamelodi Sundowns defender Joas 'Hlupi' Magolego passed away on Friday night after a long illness.
Magolego, who was 42, played for the Brazilians for over a decade from 1990 to 2002, and also won two caps for Bafana Bafana.
Sundowns' team manager Mike Ntombela confirmed to Soccer Laduma that Magolego had passed away.
"Yes, he passed away last night," Ntombela told Soccer Laduma.
"He wasn't well. It's a very sad loss for SA football and the Sundowns family. As a Sundowns legend and former youth coach, he contributed a lot to the Sundowns family.
"It's a sad loss for the president of Sundowns (Patrice Motsepe) and everyone involved with the club."
Soccer Laduma sends out their heartfelt condolences to Magolego's family, friends and the Sundowns fraternity.
