DStv Premiership Report: Golden Arrows v Baroka 28 November 2021

Baroka FC's struggles in the DStv Premiership continued with a 3-2 loss at the hands of Golden Arrows, who ended a five-match winless streak.

Kgoloko Thobejane shuffled the pack from the narrow loss against Chippa United, as he brought back the likes of Richard Mbulu, Manuel Kambala, Nhlanhla Mgaga and Bonginkosi Makume while Arrows recalled Thubelihle Magubane.

Abafana Bes'thende had the perfect start after Magubane gave them the lead in the 11th minute with a header after shot-stopper Oscarine Masulule parried Michael Gumede's shot on his path.

The hosts continued to put Baroka under pressure and Pule Mmodi doubled their lead on the half-hour mark with a strike inside the box against the run of play after he was teed up by Gumede.

The rain and the wind started to come down in the closing phase of the first stanza and Nduduzo Sibiya had a big chance to make it 3-0 for Lehlohonolo Seema's charges just before the half-time break but he was denied by the foot of Masuluke.

Ruzaigh Gamildien's move from Kaizer Chiefs to Swallows fell through.

Benni McCarthy's attempts to sign Argentine forward Facundo Juarez failed.

The Siya crew was told that Sundowns enquired about Ronwen Williams, but a move did not happen.

Sundowns were interested in SuperSport United's Sipho Mbule, though the transfer did not happen.

SuperSport's Teboho Mokoena was a key target for Sundowns, but a deal did not happen.

A move to Cape Town City did not happen for Sundowns' Promise Mkhuma on deadline day.

Chippa United coach Gavin Hunt was unable to sign transfer target Tashreeq Morris on deadline day.

Gaston Sirino attracted interest from Al Ahly, but remains a Sundowns player.

Chippa United showed an interest in Soumahoro Bangaly, the Siya crew was informed, but a deal did not happen.

Hlompho Kekana's proposed move to Swallows FC did not happen.

The match was opening up in the early stages of the second stanza, with Baroka putting more pressure and they were rewarded in the 68th minute as Sekela Sithole pulled a goal back for the visitors.

Thobejane's charges suffered a setback two minutes later as they were reduced to ten men after Mbulu was red-carded for violent conduct.

Despite the sending off, Denwin Farmer snatched the equaliser for Bakgaga ten minutes before time with a header inside the box after a cross by Mgaga.

However, Baroka could not hold for the point as they conceded a penalty four minutes later after Sibusiso Conco was brought down, which allowed Nkosinathi Sibisi to convert and hand Arrows three points.
