DStv Premiership Report: Cape Town City v Baroka FC 03 April 2022

DStv Premiership Report: Cape Town City v Baroka FC 03 April 2022

Result: Cape Town City 5-1 Baroka

Date: 03 April 2022

Venue: Cape Town Stadium

Goalkeeper Darren Keet made his long-awaited debut for City, who had Mpho Makola on the bench as Baroka give new signing Andy Mehlaphe a debut.

It was a fiery start as Baroka won a penalty from a foul on Sekela Sithole by Brice Ambina, but Keet denied Sithole before the City defence were able to clear.

Baroka re-shuffled their initial set-up with over 20 minutes played, as Bafana Bafana forward Evidence Makgopa came on in the place of Malawian Richard Mbulu.

This proved decisive after a first-time pass from Makgopa found Dan Ndlhovu, who ran into space before finding the bottom-corner after 30 minutes.

However, Kgoloko Thobejane's boys were forced to play the rest of the match with ten players as Mokhabi received a second yellow card for simulation in the final third.

The Citizens used their numerical advantage to good effect and levelled six minutes after halftime when Khanyisa Mayo got on the end of Thamsanqa Mkhize's ball to beat Oscarine Masuluke.

City completed the turnaround on 55 minutes as Mdantsane left Masuluke stranded with a penalty-kick after Sbonelo Ngubane committed a foul in the area.

The host got a third goal four minutes layer after a yard of space in the area saw Mdantsane take aim to head home for his brace from casual bit of defending.

It was the last involvement for the two-goal hero as he soon thereafter picked up his marching orders following a second bookable offence to leave both sides with ten players.

The Citizens should've made it four before the last 20 minutes through Craig Martin, but he slammed across the face of goal as Makola replaced Mayo following his lengthy ban.

City eventually bagged a fourth goal with two minutes to go as Martin got on the end of Terrence Mashego's cross to head past an advancing Masuluke.

The home side made it five in the dying seconds when Tashreeq Morris fired in from the penalty spot after being brought down by Masuluke, as City climbed to fourth spot.
