DStv Premiership Report: Cape Town City v Baroka 03 April 2021

DStv Premiership Report: Cape Town City v Baroka 03 April 2021

Result: Cape Town City 0-0 Baroka

Date: 03 April 2021

Venue: Cape Town Stadium

Cape Town City extended their winless run in the DStv Premiership to eight matches after they were held to a goalless draw by Baroka on Saturday evening.

The Citizens were unchanged, with Aubrey Ngoma and Fagrie Lakay leading the front line while Baroka made thre changes, with shot-stopper Oscarine Masuluke, Joslin Kamatuka and Nhlanhla Mgaga all returning.

The hosts were on the front foot in the early exchanges and Craig Martin had a chance to give them the lead in the 19th minute after a cut-back by Thabo Nodada, who went through on the left side of the box but his first-time strike sailed over the bar.

Kamatuka had a good chance to break the deadlock for the visitors on the half-hour mark after a through ball over the defence but he guided his shot over the bar.

Kgodiso Monama almost broke the deadlock for Bakgaga five minutes before the break after dribbling his way towards the box but his curling shot also sailed over the bar and the sides went to the break without goals.

With the visitors were playing on counter-attacks coming from the break,  Evidence Makgopa had the best chance of the game for Baroka just before the hour-mark after getting a cut-back from Kamatuka unmarked at the back post but somehow he miscued his strike wide in front of an open net.

Kamatuka had a wonderful chance to break the deadlock for Matsimela Thoka's charges with 19 minutes left after a cross by Thamsanqa Masiya found him unmarked in the centre of the box but his header missed just wide of the far post.

Tashreeq Morris had a chance to snatch the winner for City in the last four minutes after he was setup by Terrence Mashego inside the box but his strike was saved by Masuluke in the bottom corner, as the sides settled for a point each.
