DStv Premiership Report: Bloemfontein Celtic v Cape Town City 12 May 2021

Result: Bloemfontein Celtic 0-0 Cape Town City

Date: 12 May 2021

Venue: Dr. Petrus Molemela Stadium

Cape Town City remained in seventh spot in the DStv Premiership after a goalless draw at Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday afternoon.

Interim coach Diogo Peral named some familiar faces notable Taariq Fielies in defence and Justin Shonga up top, however Celtic called up skipper Ndumiso Mabena and a debut for Mokone Mereko.

The Citizens made the early interventions from balls in and around the area but were unable to trouble Celtic goalkeeper Jackson Mabokgwane.

Although a set-back followed City within 16 minutes played after an injury on Abbubaker Mobara following a strong tackle forced him to make way for Keanu Cupido.

Celtic, who fought gallantly to hold Soweto giants Kaizer Chiefs to a 2-2 draw in their last match, looked to get into gear following the earlier exchanges but couldn't outwit the Citizens.

The away side continued to see a lot of momentum with Shonga amongst others threatening the lead, but the first half in the end finished goalless.

Siwelele Sa Masele still battled to get going as the second half commenced, as City maintained the portion of forays through a teasing strike from Lyle Lakay.

Celtic though should've been in front from arguably their best chance of the game on 60 through a close-range strike from Mabena, but it was cleared off the line by Terrence Mashego.

The Citizens continued to possess momentum through balls from Mpho Makola and Craig Martin, but Siwelele pulled out all the stops.

John Maduka's side finished the match with ten players after Mereko got a second yellow card late on, while Aubrey Ngoma sent a free-kick over as it finished goalless.
