Tension At SAFA: Is Jordaan Still The President?

Tension At SAFA: Is Jordaan Still The President?

It is business as usual at SAFA House with president Danny Jordaan going on about his day-to-day duties as usual, the Siya crew has been reliably informed.

In December, Jordaan was back in court in another attempt to clear his name while the authorities sought to find answers on allegations that he and his co-accused in SAFA's Chief of Finance Gronie Hluyo and businessman Trevor Neethling had been allegedly involved in fraud and theft within the country's football mother body.

Following their appearance at the Palm Ridge Magistrates' Court on 10 December, which was the third time since the first arrests were made on 13 November, the case was then postponed to 7 February 2025.

While certain members of the SAFA National Executive Committee (NEC) members spoke openly about their support of Jordaan on the matter, others have voiced their unhappiness, feeling that the 73-year-old should step down from his position.

These SAFA NEC members had taken to social media platforms to voice their unhappiness.

"Yes, he (Jordaan) is back in the office and it's business as usual for him. But what I can tell you is that there are tensions within the organisation as some of the NEC members are unhappy that he continues to work while there is a court matter going on, but others are still in support of him," said the source.

"We are hoping that the court matter will be finalised soon as there are other important issues that the SAFA office should focus on dealing with. For example, there is a serious issue of the former national team coaches who have not been well and those are issues that the powers-that-be should be focusing on to see how the two guys can be assisted. Both coach Shakes Mashaba and Kenny Ndlazi haven't been well and I haven't heard if there was any form of assistance provided to them," the source concluded.

Attempts have been made by the Siya crew to get an official word from SAFA on the latest on Jordaan and his court matter, but there has been no response at the time of publishing.
