Deolin Mekoa Is Taking Aim At Mamelodi Sundowns

Having gone from zero goals in eight games to seven in their last two, Maritzburg United are at peak confidence as they face Mamelodi Sundowns, and Deolin Mekoa is looking forward to it.

The two teams will lock horns this evening as the Team of Choice look to try and close the gap that Masandawana have already formed at the top of the Absa Premiership table, with Mekoa's side capable of going second tonight with a victory.

Mekoa, who got a brace of assists against Cape Town City last week, says that he was always confident that their goal drought would come to an end sooner rather than later.

Speaking to the club's official website, he said, "It was a relief for us when the whistle against Cape Town City blew and finally we had scored and we had won. And when it came to Friday's game, we carried on the same performance and won again.

"So that was a big uplift for us as players and for the technical team and for the fans too. The team spirit is high and everybody is fighting and doing good, a real team effort.

"The coach was always saying that we are going to win and when we win, we will score more goals and that showed on Tuesday and Friday. Now we plan to continue scoring and playing our football.

"We can take confidence, but we are not going to be over-confident or relaxed. We have got keep pushing so we can end the year in a good position, we must stay away from complacency."

Meanwhile, Mekoa thinks that the complacency he is so wary of could have led to their poor run of form following a string of good results back at the start of their 2017/18 campaign.

He added, "The coach keeps on telling us that we mustn't be complacent and to get too carried away when we are winning like at the start of the season we won a couple of games and were on top of the log. I think maybe we got too relaxed and then we dropped back down."
