Absa Premiership Report: Bidvest Wits v Golden Arrows 18 August 2020

Result: Bidvest Wits 0-0 Golden Arrows

Date: 18 August 2020

Venue: FNB Stadium

Bidvest Wits missed the chance to close the gap on the top three in the Absa Premiership after dropping points for a third straight encounter on Tuesday night.

Mxolisi Macuphu returned to the side while Buhle Mkhwanazi, Thabang Monare and Rowan Human were also handed starts by Clever Boys head coach Gavin Hunt.

Wits were pinned back earlier on when Michael Gumede, who was in for Lerato Lamola, smashed the face of the post after cutting in from the area with Ricardo Goss palming the follow-up by Divine Lunga.

Abafana Besthende didn't stop probing close to ten minutes with Knox Mutizwa's free-kick having the hosts in a spot of bother while Sifiso Mlungwana smothered at the other end.

Wits began showing more seriousness and almost sneaked ahead on 20 minutes after Macuphu headed against the crossbar following Cole Alexander's ball.

Macuphu closed-in again four minutes to halftime after connecting with Deon Hotto's cross to head off the crossbar for the second time in the game.

Wits were quickly on the attack shortly after the halftime break, with Macuphu yet again having a crack at Mlungwana's goal with both sides unchanged from the first half.

Introductions from the bench either side ten minutes in saw Lamola and Nduduzo Sibiya enter for Arrows with Haashim Domingo thrown into the fray for Hotto on the side of Wits.

Goss, who was Man of the Match against Orlando Pirates, kept the score goalless with a point-blank save off Sibiya's first-time attempt towards the remaining quarter following a one-two with Mutizwa.

Keegan Ritchie should've found the net from a sharply taken free-kick five minutes from time, but Mlungwana parried as the encounter finished goalless, leaving Arrows in ninth and Wits fifth on the table.
