ABC Motsepe League Hit By Allegations Of Corruption

As reported in edition 1000 of Soccer Laduma, KwaZulu-Natal's ABC Motsepe League club, Durban FC, decided to walk off the pitch in one of the team's most recent games, due to alleged match-fixing.

The third tier outfit is coached by Clive Barker and for the second time in six months, the KZN outfit walked off the pitch due to alleged match-fixing.

Last season, the team quit the game against Milford FC. A similar occurrence happened again, despite the team beating Happy Wanderers 1-0 this time.

"Unfortunately Durban FC had to walk off. It was important to make a statement because we can't accept that kind of refereeing. It's killing the game. The antics started in the second-half, when the ref gave us four yellow cards plus a red, while the free-kick count was 18 to 1 against our side. Wanderers were also awarded a penalty. I'd received information the day before that other teams were trying to keep us down. I've requested a review from the SAFA referees' department. It's only certain individuals… a handful of refs… we need to deal with. There's a line the guys allegedly cross that's a long way from human error. You know exactly what's going on," a source told the Siya crew.

SAFA's head of referees, Peter Sejake, is aware of the matter.

"We're investigating," said Sejake.

In other news, Durban FC have plans for a school holiday soccer camp for both boys and girls. Coach Barker and Banyana Banyana stalwart Amanda Dlamini are set to pass their valuable knowledge on to the youngsters.

The club's director Gian Chidoni confirmed the plans of the new project.

"The club's trying everything it can to make a difference. We're pushing every project we can. It's just up Clive Barker's street. He's been doing this kind of thing for years and having him on board represents what Durban FC's about. Amanda's incredibly excited. We want to be a catalyst for improving the women's game," said Chidoni.
