Orlando Pirates revealed that Riveiro had requested to leave the club early as he had already signed with a new club, with speculation running wild that he was set to join Egyptian giants Al Ahly.

Riveiro's last game in charge of the Soweto side was a resounding 3-0 victory against Golden Arrows on Tuesday 13 May.

Multiple reports in Egypt suggested that the outgoing Buccaneers coach was in Egypt to finalise his contract with the Red Devils.

Egyptian publication Shorouk News reported that Al Ahly was expected to officially announce Riveiro as their new manager on Thursday, which the coach reportedly confirmed in an interview with 947 Radio

"I expect Al Ahly to issue an official statement on Thursday announcing my appointment, in preparation for the Club World Cup 2025 in the United States, set for mid-June," Riveiro said.

He admitted that he expects a big challenge to manage Al Ahly but was excited at the opportunity to coach at the Club World Cup.

"The tournament will be a great opportunity for me," he said.

He added: "I understand the weight of responsibility I’m taking on. I may not be at peak performance right now, but I’ll be fully prepared for a fresh start and will give my absolute best with honesty and professionalism at Al Ahly."
