Riveiro Backed To Succeed At Al Ahly

An Egyptian Premier League coach has backed Jose Riveiro to succeed at Al Ahly following rumours of his imminent arrival.

The Vigo native officially left his head coaching role at Orlando Pirates following their 3-0 win over Golden Arrows in the league, as the club confirmed earlier this week that he was allowed to leave early in order to begin preparations with his new club.

It has since been speculated that the side the 47-year-old is poised to sign for is the Club of the Century, Ahly. Riveiro will succeed Marcel Koller as the club’s lead tactician after the Swiss was relieved of his duties following elimination from the CAF Champions League by Mamelodi Sundowns, putting an end to a three-year stint at the Cairo International Stadium.

Prior to his arrival in Egypt, the Zurich native had been at the helm of some major institutions, including the Austrian national team, German giants outfit FC Koln, and newly crowned Swiss champions FC Basel.

Riveiro’s CV is perhaps not as strong, having only coached in Finland before taking the Pirates job, but ZED FC assistant Adel Mostafa believes that he has the tactical acumen needed to succeed with the Red Devils.

"The new Spaniard, Jose Rivero, Al Ahly's coach, is a good coach and performed well with Orlando City, but it's too early to judge him. Al Ahly wants a coach who is good at attacking football, and I support a coach who has passion and ambition. We need a coach with talent who knows how to manage well,” the Egyptian said, as per Kooora.

"All the coaches who have coached Al Ahly did not have a strong CV before coming to the Red Castle, like Manuel Jose, but he achieved impressive successes."
