Supporters Discuss Players' Minimum Wage

Supporters Discuss Players' Minimum Wage

SAFPU is a name that has gained much prominence over the past few weeks, particularly when 20 players were released from Kaizer Chiefs. SAFPU stepped in promising to save the day and right the wrongs. Now, the union has come out promising a R35 000 minimum salary for PSL players, and R18 000 a month for NFD players. What's the supporters' opinions on this?

It seems many doubt that this is the most feasible move, especially for teams to pay their players those salaries when they do not have sponsors or a large support base.

"These players contracts are performance-based and the more they are placed in the drama of strikes due to salaries, the more impossible it will be for them to get new contracts. How do other clubs that do not have a huge following manage to pay their players those figures?" – Malikuta

"Our players do work hard, but, at the same time, SAFPU must not get greedy. Teams in the first division mostly struggle to get sponsors and rely heavily on monthly grants. To ask them for a minimum wage of R18 000 is ridiculous." – Nelinha1

Do you think the suggested minimum wage could be more destructive then helpful? Should players be paid more/less?
