The Siya crew can confirm that SuperSport United have opened discussions with an experienced defender over a new contract.
The club has already indicated that they are going to hold onto Thulani Hlatshwayo and Bradley Grobler, but veteran striker Thamsanqa Gabuza is heading out at the end of the campaign, as confirmed to the Siya crew by club CEO Stan Matthews.

One player the club is interested in holding onto is 34-year-old versatile player Siyabonga Nhlapo, who is in the final few months of his contract with the Tshwane outfit.
The former Bidvest Wits and Jomo Cosmos player will see his contract coming to an end in June and it's been confirmed to the Siya crew that the two parties have already started engaging to see what happens next in the defender's career.
Nhlapo has been with SuperSport since 2017 and was given a new three-year deal in 2020, and Matsatsantsa look set to give him a short term deal, if negotiations go well.
Matthews spoke to the Siya crew, stating that they are in talks with the versatile, but a lot is riding on whether or not SuperSport qualify for the CAF Champions League or Confederation Cup.
"We are in discussions, but (we) also need to see how we finish up because if we are in Africa, we would look to keep him for his experience," Matthews told the Siya crew.
If the team does not qualify, Matthews explained what could happen.
"We will have to see. Maybe prioritise younger players, which we can't do if we are in the Champions League. So a lot is riding on these last seven games for everyone at the club."

Going into this weekend's matches, Nhlapo has made 18 appearances in all competitions, playing at either right or centre back. He's come in at central defence whenever there has been injuries or suspensions, giving head coach Gavin Hunt options in the back four.
