Orlando Pirates are monitoring the progress of former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Darrel Matsheke at Stellenbosch FC, the Siya crew can exclusively reveal.

Matsheke has made notable progress at the Winelands outfit, having featured in eight matches in all competitions since his arrival two months ago, including in the final of the Carling Knockout which they won last weekend against TS Galaxy.

Matsheke signed for one season when he joined Stellies although the club does have an option to extend the deal by another year.

"Pirates are monitoring Darrel Matsheke's progress at Stellenbosch. The club (Pirates) is in search of a holding midfielder to add to the squad for next season and Darrel's name has come up as a potential signing," a source close to Pirates revealed.

"The boy is a product of Chiefs' development and a move back to Gauteng for him can't be ruled out. But for now, he has a contract with Stellenbosch and he is doing well. He is grateful for the opportunity that he has got at the club and is committed to honouring it by giving his best with every opportunity he gets to play," the source added.
