FIFA v Pro Evo - The Battle To Be Crowned Best Football Game Ever Rages On!

Every year there is a debate about which football game is the best and usually revolves around either Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) or FIFA. From the first FIFA game that was released in 1993, titled FIFA International Soccer to the latest, FIFA 20 and from the first PES game released in 2001, to the latest eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer 2020 fans will argue to the death over which is better.

Even amongst the individual games themselves folks will argue about which year's edition was the best so we decided to take a look at the cumulative review scores each game received over the year of release to determine (hopefully) once and for all which is the best football game ever made.

To make things as fair as possible, we used Metacritic.com, which is a review aggregation site that takes all the reviews for the game and then, as the name implies, aggregates them all to give a final score. Where the game scored received different scores on different platforms (eg PC versus PlayStation versus Xbox) we used the top score. Unfortunately, because Metacritic.com wasn't around till 1999 we are unable to accurately compare scores for the games made before this date.

It seems that overall, the critics and reviewers believe that the best soccer game ever made was FIFA 10 in 2009, followed closely by FIFA 12 and FIFA 13. What is interesting to note is that over recent years scores have dropped steadily since then while scores from Pro Evolution Soccer have stabilised with many saying that this year's edition, eFootball Pro Evolution Soccer 2020 is a superior game to FIFA 20.
