Serious FIFA players know that the year ahead will likely consist of a lot of grinding in FIFA Ultimate Team, but there seems to be an unspoken rule filtering into the community.
The recent release of the Icon Swap rewards allows players to swap tokens for powerful Icon cards - with players like Thierry Henry and Ronaldo Koeman (all over 90 overall) being available.
However, to get enough tokens, you need to complete a range of objectives, and the first eight have been live. Five of these objectives are part of FUT Friendlies (online), and the other three in Squad Battles (facing AI).
To get the tokens, you are likely to require around 45 wins, according to Eurogamer, which means that it would take 15 hours if you are an unstoppable machine.
However, players have come up with a Golden Goal rule, where the player who concedes the first goal quits in defeat. Because this is in friendly matches, there is no penalty for the player leaving the match, and it does not impact your record.
This is allowing more players to rack up the required tokens faster, and according to reports the strategy has picked up steam - with more players getting in on the unspoken rule.
Of course, there has been some toxic play, with players celebrating lavishly or pausing before their opponent to rub in the victory. However, the vast majority tend to skip the celebration, allow their opponent to pause as quickly as possible to quit the game.
