Chelsea Want Witbooi Back

Chelsea Want Witbooi Back

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA - MARCH 12: Emile Witbooi of Cape Town City doing pitch inspection during the Betway Premiership match between Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town City FC

A rising South African teenage talent has once again caught the eye of one of Europe's elite clubs, with a second assessment invitation now extended following impressive initial sessions abroad.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, a Cape Town City teenage sensation spent some time at a London-based English side, and now it's believed that the prestigious club would like to have him back for further assessment.

Insiders close to the player and Cape Town City have indicated that Chelsea have requested to have Emile Witbooi return to England for more training and assessment ahead of the new season.

"Chelsea have made enquiries if he can go back for further training and assessment. It's believed that they are looking at integrating him into their Under-18 team so that he can move through the ranks as he grows. It's believed that they were impressed when he was last there and they have been keeping tabs on his progress and that's why they still need him," the source told Soccer Laduma.

Meanwhile, a second source stated that the possible move could only happen after the Under-17 World Cup in Qatar as there are other interested parties from Europe as well.

"I don't think even if Cape Town City want him to go it could be now or soon as they are still monitoring other interest from Europe as well. They are believed to want to see what will happen at the Under-17 FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year. Though at the moment Chelsea are in the forefront," the second insider revealed.

The 16-year-old has already played senior team games for the Citizens this season and was instrumental in helping Amajimbos to qualify for the Under-17 FIFA World Cup in Qatar from 3 to 27 November 2025.

Soccer Laduma contacted Cape Town City owner John Comitis who didn't want to say much on the situation.

"The interest is there but there is no final deal on the table yet," Comitis told Soccer Laduma.
