The 26-year-old South African forward enjoyed a solid campaign in the Egyptian Premier League, registering five goals and seven assists in 28 appearances for Cleopatra. His all-round attacking contribution has not gone unnoticed, and the club is now reportedly intent on keeping him beyond the expiration of his current loan deal.
Lakay, who joined Pyramids FC from Cape Town City in 2022, still has time left on his contract with the Cairo giants, but it's understood that Cleopatra have the option to make the move permanent, and are seriously considering it.
A potential transfer could also benefit Cape Town City, who are believed to have inserted a sell-on clause in Lakay's deal when he left for Egypt. A permanent switch would therefore not only provide stability for the player but offer a financial boost for the Citizens back home.
Lakay’s versatility and work rate have made him a standout in the Cleopatra attack, and a permanent deal could also give him the consistency needed to work his way back into Bafana Bafana contention.
At this stage, it’s unclear whether negotiations have officially begun between Cleopatra and Pyramids, but all signs point toward a deal being tabled in the coming weeks as the club looks to secure one of their most productive players this season
