Cape Town City are facing an uncertain offseason as a mass player exodus looms large following the club’s relegation to the Motsepe Foundation Championship, the Siya crew has been informed.

City, who were confirmed to drop down from the Betway Premiership after a disappointing 2024/25 campaign, are expected to lose several senior players who have been central to the team in recent seasons.
Among them is long-serving captain Thamsanqa Mkhize, who is set to lead the list of high-profile exits.
Joining Mkhize on the way out are experienced stars Thulani Serero, Fortune Makaringe, Amadou Soukouna, Haashim Domingo, Lorenzo Gordinho, and Nathan Fasika.
The departure of such a core group of players signals a major shake-up for the Cape outfit, with sources suggesting the exodus could leave the club with the prospect of rebuilding the squad from scratch.
The situation comes as Chairman John Comitis has publicly hinted that City are considering the possibility of purchasing a Betway Premiership status as a shortcut back to the top flight.
While that move could fast-track the club’s return to elite football, it would still require an almost complete squad overhaul to meet the demands of the Premiership.
With preparations for the 2025/26 season already underway across the country, Cape Town City now face a race against time to stabilise their squad.
