Andile Jali played from the first minute till extra-time and even stepped up to take the first spot-kick as his KV Oostende beat injured South African goalkeeper Darren Keet's Kortrijk in a penalty shootout after the scores were tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes and extra-time, in their Play-Off II Final clash on Saturday at the Albertparkstadion.
Kortrijk, who was missing Keet who is out with a shoulder injury, took the lead in the 54th minute through a penalty from De Smet.
Wilmet then equalised for Oostende in the 71st minute of play, with Kortrijk grabbing the lead once more in the 89th minute thanks to Coulibaly. Oostende then responded almost immediately and was back on level matters a minute later as Jonckheere's goal made sure of extra-time.
Neither side could find a winner in extra-time and after 120minutes of play, penalties would decide the outcome.
The South African was then called upon to take his side's first penalty and he made no mistake slotting calmly past Clepkens in the Kortrijk goal.
Martens slotted the last penalty after Tomaševic had missed his spot-kick to give Oostende an exciting win.
Unfortunately the victory does end on a sour note, as because Oostende do not have the correct UEFA licencing, they will not be able to play in the Europa League play-off against Zulte-Waregem, which winning this final, would have qualifed them to do.
