Earlier this week, the young centre-back completed a major move to English side QPR. Smith delivered a standout performance at the recently concluded U20 Africa Cup of Nations – a tournament South Africa won – where he was named Player of the Tournament. His displays caught the attention of several top clubs vying for his signature.
Ultimately, it was the London-based outfit who succeeded in luring the Stellenbosch native to Loftus Road. Smith is initially set to link up with QPR’s development squad, with hopes of breaking into the first team in due course.
The Hoops have a strong reputation for nurturing young talent who go on to shine on bigger stages – with the likes of Raheem Sterling, Adel Taarabt, and Eberechi Eze all having honed their craft in west London. Now, Smith is poised to follow in their footsteps.
Speaking after the club secured the 20-year-old defender, QPR Chief Executive Officer Christian Nourry shared his delight.
“We are happy to beat significant competition to land the services of Tylon today,” Nourry said in an official statement.

“We will take it step by step.”
