Mayo Urges PSL Stars To Seek CAFCL Clubs Outside SA

Khanyisa Mayo, currently in excellent form, has encouraged stars from the Betway Premiership to move to North African clubs competing in the CAF Champions League.

After a challenging start at CR Belouizdad, the Umtata native has become an integral part of the Reds' fortunes. The striker has netted three goals for the Algerian giants in his last eight matches, a streak dating back to his first goal for the club against Orlando Pirates in African football's premier club competition.

Mayo has returned to South Africa to face the Buccaneers. Amid his recent success with his new club, he has advocated for more players to join teams that regularly participate in the continental tournament.

"Yeah definitely, I'd encourage more players from South Africa to go abroad and to go to the North African countries," the 26-year-old said in his pre-match press conference.

"Because for you it's getting out of your comfort zone, getting familiar with South African football but also wanting to play at the highest level of football on the continent, which is the [CAF] Champions League and most of the teams in North Africa compete in the tournament.

"It gives you an opportunity to grow in football and also to grow as a player and you see your career growing as a consequence. So, I encourage more footballers to go outside South Africa to explore their options because football is not only in South Africa, but all over the world."

The Bafana Bafana forward also revealed how his move to Algiers has helped him become a better player.

"My physical endurance has improved," he added.

"I've lost more weight, I feel way better, I run 10 to 15 kilometres in a game.

"So I have more strength than I did a season ago at Cape Town City, but now I feel much lighter and I'd like to thank the team for the work they've put in me to help me be where I am with the physical and mental part of my game and I applaud CRB and the technical team for where I am today."
