Banyana Banyana star, Refiloe Jane, wasted no time getting in on the action after signing for AC Milan, and was given a start not long after touching down in Italy to begin the most exciting stage of her career so far.

The 27-year-old, who has already made over 100 appearances for the South African national team, was last playing for Canberra United in Australia, but this week was able to finalise a move that saw her join the Italian giants before their 2019/20 season gets underway this month.

Jane was handed a starting berth on Saturday by head coach, Maurizio Ganz, despite the fact that she was only officially unveiled as their new signing after arriving on Friday.

Milan went on to record a comfortable 5-0 victory over Napoli thanks to goals from Valentina Giacinti (x2), Linda Tucceri, Deborah Rinaldi and Sandra Zigic, with their new South African signing being deployed as a holding midfielder as part of a 4-1-4-1 formation ahead of their opening Serie A game on September 14 against Roma.

Her move to Milan and first appearance in the famous black and red stripes comes at the end of a bittersweet week for 'Fifi' after she started for - and captained - Banyana in both legs of their clash with Botswana that saw them lose on penalties to end their hopes of reaching the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Japan.

The midfielder is the latest Banyana player to move to Europe after their maiden appearance at a FIFA Women's World Cup, joining the likes of Leandra Smeda, Janine van Wyk, Jermaine Seoposenwe and Letago Madiba playing over there.
