For the second time this season, the South African tactician’s charges came up against Inter Miami. While Carnell suffered a 2-1 defeat during his first encounter of the campaign this past off-season, this time he managed to secure a draw against the Herons, as their latest match-up ended 3-3.
The match was not only dramatic in terms of the goals scored — Javier Mascherano’s charges had to come back on two occasions, scoring the equaliser as late as the 95th minute through Telasco Segovia — but it also featured a few tense moments off the ball.
Jordi Alba, 93-capped Spain international and former Barcelona star, has been adjudged to have touched the face of an opponent, Danley Jean Jacques, in the 56th minute.
It has been deemed that the Hospitalet de Llobregat native violated the league's policy regarding hands to the face/head/neck of an opponent, and Major League Soccer has now confirmed that the left-back will be fined an undisclosed amount.
“Inter Miami CF defender Jordi Alba has been fined for violating the League’s policy regarding hands to the face/head/neck of an opponent in the 57th minute of Miami’s match against the Philadelphia Union on May 24,” an official statement from the league read.
