Just last month it was reported that Tau was on the brink of becoming Africa's highest paid player.
However, those negotiations appears to have fallen through, with the player's future now taking a complicated twist.
According to Cairo24, the Egyptian giants have suggested that Tau take a 50% salary cut to continue with the club, or alternatively, be loaned out for the final year of his contract with the club.
The report revealed that Tau rejected the latter offer and stated he would be willing to continue with Al Ahly, albeit on a reduced salary.
Tau's former coach Pitso Mosimane has suggested that the 30-year-old could make a switch to Saudi Arabia where he can further his career if he does part ways with Al Ahly.
Having joined the club in 2021, Tau's contract with the club is set to come to an end in June 2025.
