BREAKING: Orbit Promoted, CT City Relegated

Orbit College have been promoted to the Betway Premiership after defeating Cape Town City, who have now been relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

City interim coach Diogo Peral had striker Amadou Soukouna back in the starting line-up as Kayden Francis dropped to the bench alongside Emile Witboo, Shakeel April and Jody Ah Shene.

The game got off to a lively start with the Citizens enjoying a bit more of the ball although they struggled to carve out chances early on, while Orbit were happy to sit back and soak up the pressure.

The visitors did carve out the first chance on 20 minutes when some neat inter-play saw Prins Tjueza set up Haashim Domingo, who could only fire straight at Orbit goalkeeper Sekhoane Moerane.

That proved to be City's only big opening for the first period, while Orbit managed to carve out a couple strikes from distance, none of which seriously troubled veteran goalkeeper Darren Keet.

However, Orbit took the lead two minutes after the halftime break when the lively Gomolemo Khoto carved out some space out wide before picking out Letsie Koapeng, who got ahead of his marker before slotting past Keet.

The visitors responded with a double change for the final 30 minutes as Emile Witbooi and Fortune Makaringe replaced Tjiueza and Nathan Fasika to freshen up the attack.

The Citizens threw bodies forward in search of the equaliser in the closing stages but they were met by a stubborn Orbit defence, who remained resolute throughout the encounter.

Orbit were able to see out the closing stages to secure a win and a spot in the Premiership next season, while City have been relegated to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
