Pirates Pulling All The Stops To Beat Chiefs To Midfielder?

Pirates Pulling All The Stops To Beat Chiefs To Midfielder?

The transfer rivalry between two of South Africa's biggest clubs has intensified once again, with sources indicating one Soweto giant has leapt ahead of their eternal rivals in the pursuit of an established PSL midfielder.

A transfer scenario that initially appeared to favour one of Kaizer Chiefs or Orlando Pirates has now apparently shifted dramatically, with an offer reportedly tabled that could prove decisive in securing the services of a Winelands-based talent.

As previously reported by Soccer Laduma, Amakhosi have been monitoring Stellenbosch FC midfielder Sihle Nduli but now it's believed that Pirates are set to table an offer which could be hard to resist for Stellies.

Insiders close to Pirates and the player have indicated that a potential move to Pirates for Nduli looks arguably more realistic than him going to Chiefs at this stage.

"For now they are pulling all the stops to get the players they need. He is not the only one but with him the deal is as good as done. Pirates are apparently believed to be doing their best and have Nduli for next season. So, for now they are the favourites and set to beat rivals Kaizer Chiefs," the insider told the Siya crew.

A second insider stated that they are not sure whether Pirates will get the player without a signing fee or if they have to buy him from Stellenbosch FC.

"His contract is expected to run out at the end of the season but it's believed that Stellenbosch have already offered him an extension to his current contract. So, although Chiefs were hoping to get him on a free transfer it's not clear yet how his probable move to Pirates will happen, whether it will be for free of they will buy him. But it's highly probable," the second source told Soccer Laduma.

The 29-year-old defensive midfielder is set to be competing with Makhehlene Makhaula and Thalente Mbatha next season if all goes according to plan. This season he has featured in the vast majority of Betway Premiership games for the Winelands side.

Nduli's experience and defensive stability would add valuable depth to the Buccaneers' midfield options ahead of what promises to be a demanding season with continental commitments. For Stellenbosch FC, while losing a key midfielder would be a blow, they've demonstrated their ability to develop talent and rebuild. The coming days should bring clarity on whether Nduli will indeed make the move to Pirates or Chiefs, or even if Stellenbosch themselves can turn the tide.
