Despite ending a decade-long trophy drought with a prestigious cup victory over their biggest rivals, Kaizer Chiefs management remains divided over the future of the man who orchestrated the triumph.
Internal discussions are ongoing at the highest levels, with differing opinions about whether the cup success outweighs other concerns about the team's overall season performance.
As first reported on Soccer Laduma, head coach Nasreddine Nabi's position at Chiefs came into question a few weeks ago as certain members of the club felt he should part ways with the Amakhosi irrespective of how he performs in the Nedbank Cup. The Siya crew also noted how other members of management felt the club should wait to see how their semi-final goes against Mamelodi Sundowns, a match which Amakhosi then won. Then there was the opinion that Nabi should stay on at the helm no matter what. The Siya crew investigates the latest on the situation after Nabi lifted the Nedbank Cup, beating Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the final on Saturday.

Insiders at the club privy to information have indicated that no final decision has been made yet regarding Nabi's future as there are several factors that both the board of the team and management are still discussing to determine why he should stay or leave.
"No. There is no decision at the moment. After the Nedbank Cup on Saturday the team will only meet today (Monday), and as we spoke before, the club is happy with the coach and the progress that has happened so far. There was no condition on the coach to win the Nedbank Cup and stay, or if he doesn't win then he leaves. No. There was nothing like that. So at the moment there is no decision on the coach. What we know is he has a two-year contract with a one-year option. So he is believed to apparently be working until next season (at least)," the source told Soccer Laduma.
However, a second source further stated that there have been mixed feelings amongst management and board on whether the coach should stay or leave at the end of the season.

"You remember the last time we spoke about people like football manager Bobby Motaung and Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Junior apparently wanting the coach to serve his full term. But there were mixed feelings and different opinions as well (among management). And the main argument is that there are some improvements in the club in terms of playing and winning the Nedbank Cup so it is believed it would be unfair to fire the coach after what has happened and also while the club didn't sign all the players the technical team wanted. That's where the mixed feelings come in. So, for now there is no decision on the coach on him leaving as his contract runs until 30 June 2026 with a one-year option," the second insider told the Siya crew.
In the league, Nabi has an inconsistent record and is unlikely to finish in the top eight to qualify for the MTN8. He has however won the first trophy for Kaizer Chiefs in 10 years.
Soccer Laduma contacted Chiefs for comment on the issue but there was no response at the time of publishing this story.
This period of uncertainty comes at a critical juncture for Amakhosi, who must balance the euphoria of finally ending their trophy drought against the realities of a disappointing league campaign. The decision facing Chiefs' hierarchy represents a pivotal moment that could define the club's trajectory in the coming seasons. While some see the cup victory as validation of Nabi's methods and potential, others appear focused on the broader picture of inconsistent league form.
With preseason planning and transfer strategy dependent on coaching stability, the club faces pressure to resolve this situation quickly. Whether the historic cup triumph proves enough to convince all decision-makers of Nabi's suitability remains one of the most intriguing subplots.
