Orlando Pirates had finished the previous DStv Premiership league season in second position to Mamelodi Sundowns and qualified for the CAF Champions League, a stepping stone to higher ambitions this time.
Now, four games into the current season, the Buccaneers are in position four with seven points having one loss, one draw and two wins.

The team is also in the MTN8 semi-finals where they have already won the first leg 2-1 against Stellenbosch FC. They also progressed to the next round of the CAF Champions League where they will face Botswana side Jwaneng Galaxy, hoping to get into the group stage.
With the way Bucs have started the campaign, former CAF Champions League winning captain with Pirates, Edward "Magents" Motale says that the current squad "scares" him.
Motale spoke to Soccer Laduma in an exclusive interview, saying that there is light at the end of the tunnel for Bucs who will compete for the league title against their rivals Mamelodi Sundowns.
"It's not a secret that Sundowns have started very well in the league winning all the six games but it's not yet gone. Pirates can compete now," Motale told the Siya crew.
"Actually both teams are very good and they will even compete in Africa. Pirates' current squad scares me a lot.
"They have players who are willing to win for the team at all costs. It will be easy for them to compete both locally for all the trophies including the league and also for the Champions League.
"They have a very good squad. When they rest I am not happy because I am always looking forward to see them play. You can see there is light at the end of the tunnel for the team," Motale told Soccer Laduma.

Motale added that the signings the team made during the off season have boosted the squad a lot.
"They signed players who fit our system and the hunger to play for Pirates. They have the purpose to win and they are suiting very well with the team.
"That's what is making this squad more dangerous this season. And if they continue like this then we will have more positive results and trophies coming to the team," Motale concluded.
