Riveiro Gives Special Praise To Golden Boot Winner

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro reserved some special praise for striker Tshegofatso Mabasa, who won the Golden Boot.

Mabasa scored six goals for Moroka Swallows in the first half of the season, before returning to Pirates in January and scoring an impressive 10 goals in 13 league appearances.

The 27-year-old beat out competition from Stellenbosch FC's Iqraam Rayners, who finished the season on 15 goals after scoring on the final day of the campaign.

"We have to share the trophy with Swallows obviously, but yeah," Riveiro told SuperSport after the game.

"We are so happy for the guy because he came in a phenomenal moment.

"The contribution not only scoring in many teams was really important for us and hopefully it's just the beginning for him and congratulations also to Stellenbosch.

The Spanish tactician also gave props to Stellenbosch for taking the race for second spot to the final day of the campaign.

"I think they really intensified the competition this season, they were a very tough opponent. Today, they are not in the second spot but imagine extremely sour.

"But for us, we probably deserved to be there so I think good day for us."

The Buccaneers will now shift focus to the Nedbank Cup final against Mamelodi Sundowns next weekend.
