Incumbent Al Ahly coach Jose Riveiro took charge of his final training session with Orlando Pirates on Monday, ahead of the club’s Betway Premiership clash against Golden Arrows.

The session was held at Rand Stadium in Johannesburg, with the focus on match preparations for Tuesday night’s fixture. Riveiro, who has officially agreed to part ways with Pirates after the match, led the session as normal alongside his technical staff.
One notable presence at training was Monnapule Saleng. The attacker, who has been out of the team since December last year — coincidentally last featuring in a match against Al Ahly — was seen back on the pitch. While it remains to be seen whether he will feature on matchday, his involvement suggests progress in his recovery.
Pirates confirmed on Sunday that the Golden Arrows match will mark the end of Riveiro’s tenure at the club. The Spaniard departs with five trophies, having guided the team to three MTN8 titles and two Nedbank Cup victories during his time in charge.
Riveiro’s move to Egyptian giants Al Ahly has not been formally announced by the club, but the Siya has reported how a deal is expected to be in place, with the coach set to begin a new chapter in North Africa following his final assignment in the South African top flight.
Pirates will now turn their focus to closing the season strongly, with internal discussions expected to begin soon regarding Riveiro’s successor.
