Nedbank Cup Last 16 Report: Chippa United v Polokwane City 08 April 2017

Chippa v Polokwane

Nedbank Cup   Result: Chippa United 2-0 Polokwane City    Date: 08 April 2017   Venue:  Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium   Chippa United advanced to the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals, after recording a 2-0 win over Polokwane City at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.   The match started tentatively with both teams building from the back and trying to hold onto possession.   In the first ten minutes of the game most of the play was in the middle of the park as both teams were knocking the ball around trying to build momentum.   The Rise and Shine kept the ball well and looked to penetrate the Chilli Boys through the middle however they were not finding openings.   There was not much of a change in the final ten minutes of the half from both sides, as they went into the break with the score locked at 0-0.   In the 59th minute Dan Malesela took off the defender Siyabonga Ngubane and bringing on the striker Linda Shiba.   The move seemed to have paid off as immediately after the substitution - 60th minute -  Buyani Sali broke the deadlock for Chippa United with a compose finish from 12-yards out.   Dan Malesela had abandoned his defensive strategy and was now playing their normal possession football in front of their own crowd.   In the 70th minute the Rise and Shine were now pinned back into their half and could not play possession game as in the first-half.   The Chilli Boys eventually doubled their lead in the 81st minute as Andile Mbenyane found the back of the net to secure his side's spot in the next round.   Polokwane failed to add anything going forward in the closing stages of the second, as their cup run came to an end.   Here's how they lined up:   Chippa: 1. Akpeyi, Ngubane, 7. Mako, 13. Chabalala, 35. Bergman, 31. Sangweni(C), 15. Zuke, 41. Masuku, 6. Sali, 19. R. Manzini.
