Daniel Akpeyi was thrown into the deep end at Chiefs last week as he was given his club debut in the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates, with the experienced Nigerian signing on deadline day for the club after a string of mistakes from Virgil Vries.
The 32-year-old, however, will not be able to make his second appearance in Amakhosi colours when they take on The Magic FC on Sunday, with Ernst Middendorp confirming what was already known - he is cup-tied.
Akpeyi played the full 90 minutes for Chippa United as they knocked Mamelodi Sundowns out of the tournament in the first round, meaning that can now not play at all for the remainder of the competition.
Speaking to the media today, Middendorp said, "It is known that we cannot use our goalkeeper Daniel, who is cup-tied, which means he is not available. I am forced to change…"
Chiefs have a good chance to win the tournament for the first time since 2013 after both Sundowns and Orlando Pirates got knocked out early doors.
