The Premier Soccer League revealed that Mamelodi Sundowns made a request to postpone the moment of silence for Motjeka Madisha.
As confirmed by teammates and close friends of Madisha, the 25-year-old lost his life away in a horrific car accident on the weekend, just a few days after the funeral of Anele Ngcongca who passed away on November 23.
However, the Brazilians are yet to officially come out to confirm Madisha's death. According to the Chloorkop-based club, an investigation is still underway to confirm the 'identity' of 'the driver' who passed away in the accident.
"The nature of the horrific car crash that took place on the Zuurfontein Road near Chloorkop requires that all processes be followed by the necessary authorities with relevant expertise to confirm the identity of the driver. The Madisha family requests privacy and the relevant protocols are followed during this difficult period of uncertainty," the statement from Sundowns said in part.
With that said, until confirmation from the family of Madisha, the Brazilians requested a postponement of a moment of silence in this week's DStv Premiership fixtures.
"Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club has asked the PSL to postpone the observance of a moment of silence in respect of Mr Motjeka Madisha until certain issues have been resolved by the South African Police Services," the league stated in a press release.
