Pitso Mosimane felt a bit embarrassed by conceding four goals against Kaizer Chiefs at the weekend, although admitted that he used the encounter to compare the two sides.
Chiefs fielded their strongest line-up against Mamelodi Sundowns in the Shell Helix Cup on Saturday, winning the encounter 4-2 on the day.
Speaking to the media after the game, Mosimane admitted that during the second half of the encounter he had to bring back the core of his team in order to make sure that his side was not left too embarrassed.
"Not anyone can score four goals against Mamelodi Sundowns, I don't know if I lost four before, maybe? I don't remember but it's okay, it happens to Pep, it happens to Mourinho and other coaches so who am I?" Mosimane said after the game.
The two sides will meet on October 27, in the Absa Premiership and Mosimane revealed that the Shell Helix Cup clash came in good time in order for him to assess his side compared to Amakhosi, who are top of the league standings.
"For me it was also to check Kaizer Chiefs because they played a very strong team so I need to know where my team is at the moment There's a lot of negatives from my team, a lot of work - four goals remember, that's what I know. All I had to do in the second half was bring the integrity back to the club and to make sure that we are Sundowns, so I said okay, this can be embarrassing and I respect the badge, the team and the Shell Helix Cup and I know people watching at home, my family, my son crying – oh how can you concede four?
"But we can score 16 also remember so we have to get four sometimes. It's part of the game we move on and meet again in two weeks," he said.
In the past five seasons, Chiefs and Sundowns have met 11 times competitively, with the Brazilians winning four, drawing four and losing three.
