'If Chiefs & Pirates Don't Stop Downs Then Who Will?'

'If Chiefs & Pirates Don't Stop Downs Then Who Will?'

Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Dumisa Ngobe speaks out on what Mamelodi Sundowns are doing right and what the other 15 teams in the Premiership need to learn to catch up with them.

Ngobe spoke to Soccer Laduma in an exclusive interview, saying that there is no way any team will take the league title away from the Brazilians the way things are going at the moment.

The Witbank born former midfielder stated that as soon as Sundowns win three games in a row in the league then there will be no team that will be able to stop them from eventually clinching the PSL title this season.

"Tell me who can stop Sundowns at the moment! Let anyone who thinks Sundowns will not win the league title raise their hands," Ngobe told Soccer Laduma.

"You know they have played much less games than any other team. They beat (Orlando) Pirates at home already. They have beaten Chiefs already and those are the teams which should be stopping Sundowns.

"I am not saying other teams are small but these are teams that know how to win the league title together with SuperSport United. So, if these teams are not stopping Sundowns then who will stop them?

"You see the main difference is the player attitude. Sundowns' players know how to fight on the field of play. When they lose ball possession they recover it very fast to win the ball back and attack. You know it's the players who win games and not the coaches.

"Yes, Rulani Mokwena is a very good coach who has his players who play for him and the team. So, other teams should learn that from Sundowns' players. Then where are the analysts for other teams? How can't they analyse how to stop Sundowns? They should not just look at their own mistakes but also what mistakes Sundowns make and where they can be punished.

"But for now I can easily and freely say Sundowns are winning the league title again this season. If the players of other teams don't follow Sundowns' players' attitude then Sundowns will continue winning the league for as long as they can. As I have said, players win games not coaches," Ngobe said.

Ngobe added that all the other teams in the league should now start to compete with Sundowns and that they should not just make up the numbers.

"You see what I see as another problem is that it seems other teams are just happy to avoid relegation. I don't know why the owners and chairmen of the teams are not motivated enough to fight for the league title. It seems they are in the wrong league and that's why Sundowns will control this league for a long time.

"Everyone at Sundowns is motivated. Look, they just won about R75million but they don't stop fighting. All the other teams should learn from that and aim to win the league title and other trophies as well, not just fight relegation all the time and just be happy to be among the 16 teams. That's the Sundowns difference," Ngobe concluded.
