Date: 21 May 2024

Venue: Mbombela Stadium

Sundowns made four changes following their win over Stellenbosch, as Tashreeq Matthews, Sphelele Mkhulise, Khuliso Mudau and Mosa Lebusa were recalled.

TS Galaxy played on the front foot as within the first five minutes Sphiwe Mahlangu forced a save out goalkeeper Ronwen Williams with a strike from the edge of the box.

With the game getting stretched, the Rockets had a big chance midway into the first stanza after Mahlangu received a square pass and was one-on-one with Williams but the Bafana Bafana shot-stopper came out on top.

The Brazilians only gained rhythm in their attacks ten minutes before the interval after Rivaldo Coetzee nearly broke the deadlock with a rocket from range that was fiercely pushed away at full-stretch by goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari.

However, Rulani Mokwena's chages could not play their regular free flowing game as Galaxy closed them down quickly and the sides went to the break still deadlocked.

Galaxy were a threat on transitions from the interval, as ten minutes into the second stanza former Kaizer Chiefs forward Puso Dithejane had a chance unmarked on the far side of the box but his curler was saved by Williams.

The Brazilians struggled to create chances despite playing high up the pitch and after the hour-mark, they made a double change for fresh legs as Ndumiso Mabena and Neo Maema entered the field.

However, the Rockets continued to have space behind Sundowns defence on counter-attacks and with 13 minutes remaining, Dithejane eventually broke the deadlock with a low shot from the edge of the box that went in off the post.

The Tshwane giants were patient in attack and with five minutes to go, Peter Shalulile levelled matters with a glancing header at the near post after a cross by Aubrey Modiba.

Sundowns remained unbeaten at the top ahead of their last game against Cape Town City on Saturday.
