Can Pitso Mosimane Increase Tokelo Rantie's Market Value?

Can Pitso Mosimane Increase Tokelo Rantie's Market Value?

Tokelo Rantie dropped ±R44.7 million in six years according to the figures on transfermarkt.com, but can his time at Mamelodi Sundowns see a climb in his value?

Rantie experienced one of the biggest falls from grace for a South African player, having gone from plying his trade in one of the best league's in the world, to not kicking a ball since 2017.

Rantie joined Bournemouth in the English Premier League in 2013, where his market value climbed to €3 million (±R48.7 million) according to the figures on transfermarkt.com, however, started declining shortly after in the following season once he started to fall out of favour at the club.

The 29-year-old left Bournemouth in 2016, where his market value at the time dropped to €1 million (±R16.2 million), although, after putting pen to paper with Genclerbirligi Ankara in Turkey, his value climbed to €1.6 million (±R25.9 million).

However, it was short-lived for the Bafana Bafana international, after a tough spell in Turkey for the player. In 2018 it was reported in local media that the player had gone AWOL at Genclerbirligi Ankara.

Rantie thereafter officially left the Turkish outfit in January of 2018, where he made his return to Mzansi to join up with Cape Town City in August that same year.

However, due to his lack of fitness at the time and off-the-field issues he was dealing with, the striker left the Citizens without making a single first team appearance for the club.

After all of these events, the player's market value dropped down to €250 thousand (±R4 million).

The Bafana international is now poised to get his career back on track, after the Brazilians confirmed that the player put pen to paper on a three-year deal at the club, where he will be hopeful that, under the mentorship of Head Coach Mosimane, he could return to his best and possibly closer to his best market value, should he be given a chance to prove himself once again.

If there is any coach who could get Rantie back on track, it has to be Pitso Mosimane, while plying his trade in the CAF Champions League will do his market value a massive favour.

According to the figures on transfermarkt.com, here are four players who saw an increase in their market value after joining Sundowns:

Lebohang Maboe:

€600 thousand (±R9.7 million) – €1 million (±R16.2 million)

Gaston Sirino:

€200 thousand (±R3.2 million) – €850 thousand (±R13.8 million)

Lyle Lakay:

€600 thousand (±R9.7 million) – €850 thousand (±R13.8 million)

Mosa Lebusa:

€600 thousand (±R9.7 million) – €700 thousand (±R11.3 million)
