Why Cele & Miguel Did Not Start The Soweto Derby

Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi gave insight into his decision not to start Thabo Cele and Inacio Miguel in the Soweto Derby at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Amakhosi started with the central defensive pairing of Zitha Kwinika and Edmilson Dove, as Miguel sat on the bench for a second match running since returning from injury.

Miguel is currently on three yellow cards and Nabi may have considered that ahead of the Nedbank Cup final this weekend, so that he can have the Angolan defender available for selection. He looks set to start at Moses Mabhida Stadium this Saturday, after Bradley Cross was sent off in the derby over the weekend, with Dove likely to play at left back.

Cele, meanwhile, came off the bench in the second half for Amakhosi, as Nabi revealed that he was not fully fit to start the game. Amakhosi started with Yusuf Maart and Nkosingiphile Ngcobo in midfield.

"For Cele, he is coming from an injury and he hasn't fully trained. He's been injured, so that's why he has not been 100 percent to start the game," Nabi said via his assistant coach and translator, Cedric Kaze.

"About Inacio, it's the same thing. He is coming from an injury and he wasn't really fully fit to give a 100 percent performance."

The Amakhosi technical team will be monitoring the two players throughout the week and will make a decision on whether or not they can start against Pirates in the final.
