The Premier Soccer League has taken a decision to review – and have set aside in the High Court – the ruling by Nazeer Cassim SC, that orders Kaizer Chiefs to replay their two games, the Siya crew can reveal.
As had been indicated to Soccer Laduma earlier this week, the executive committee had been deliberating on their response to the outcome and final findings taken by SAFA arbitrator, Cassim, last week Friday.
To give a summary, Amakhosi initially asked that their five DStv Premiership games in December be postponed due to an outbreak of Covid-19 cases at the time, however, their request was denied by the League.
Although Cape Town City and Golden Arrows made their way to their respective match venues, Chiefs were a no-show as cases increased from 30 to about 50 people within the camp, including coach Stuart Baxter.
But the Glamour Boys did eventually play – against Sekhukhune United, Royal AM and Maritzburg United before the Christmas recess.
PSL prosecutor Zola Majavu charged Chiefs in January, but the club successfully referred the matter for arbitration and won the case!
It's believed Chiefs, Cape Town City and Arrows were excused from the deliberations by the exco this week, and now word coming out is that the League has officially requested Cassim's award be set aside.
In a club statement last night, Chiefs also preempted this and slammed the PSL for wanting Cassim's ruling to be overturned, signaling what is likely to be a protracted case as Amakhosi will now also fight back to be able to replay the two games.
As things stand, there has been no official communication from Majavu, who was usually quick with updates earlier on and keeping media up to speed…
