Kaizer Chiefs chairman, Kaizer Motaung Sr, is believed to have intervened to retain head coach Nasreddine Nabi at the club, according to insiders privy to information.
This is after other media reported that the Tunisian coach was on his way out of the Naturena-based club even after winning the Nedbank Cup, against arch-rivals, Orlando Pirates last weekend to end the team’s 10-year trophy drought.

When asked about Nabi's future, the club’s Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr, told the media that they would review the season and make a decision. He acknowledged that, despite the trophy victory, the team’s league performance had been unsatisfactory.
In response, Nabi told reporters that he would only remain with Amakhosi if they provided him with the necessary resources to succeed in the next season. He emphasised that the club had made “promises” about support, while he had also committed to delivering silverware to the fans.
The Siya crew also reported earlier this week that Chiefs management met and had decided to retain Nabi, though they were still due to meet with the coach to discuss his future. Soccer Laduma recently reported how not all members of management had the same level of confidence for Nabi to steer the ship next season.
Following the mixed messages from the club, sources within Naturena have now indicated that the chairman (Motaung Sr) has since stepped in to intervene, urging the team’s management to give the coach more time.

“The chairman is quite positive about Nabi and believes the process needs to continue with the coach receiving adequate support. He has told management to let the coach see out his contract,” a Siya source stated.
Nabi has a year left on his contract with an option to renew for another year.
The Tunisian, Siya sources reveal, understands that there will be no excuses next season, as it will be his second year in charge. He has made it clear that he requires several new players. Reports suggest he is interested in Tanzanian midfielder Feisal Salum, among other players.
Nabi will shift his focus to the last two games as he looks to finish the season strong. Chiefs play Sekhukhune United in Polokwane on Saturday before hosting Polokwane City at FNB Stadium next weekend.
