Why Jessica Didn't Want Her Son To Play For Chiefs

While he is making waves in the Kaizer Chiefs youth team, club Marketing Director Jessica Motaung has revealed why she never wanted her son Kenneth to turn out in the colours of Amakhosi.

As reported by the Siya crew in November, the lanky striker has been part of the Chiefs u17 side and has shown promise with his great footballing ability as well as his aerial prowess.

He has managed to sneak under the radar thanks to his paternal surname Simmons, which has allowed him to grow without the pressure of carrying the famous Motaung surname.

His mother who heads up Chiefs marketing department, has revealed her admiration for the promise that the striker has shown early in his career.

"Look I've watched Kenneth from a youngster from just purely enjoying the game and I love that, and I am excited for him. He loves the sport, he is passionate about football and I have watched him really show that he loves it – it's not something that I've imposed on him. I am excited for him," she said at a press conference hosted by CAF President Dt Patrice Motsepe, held in Sandton this week.

"Aerially, he is amazing, he loves the games, and he actually has a very intellectual brain for football, from an early age, its something we were all surprised about and I am excited and he must do the work. Its part of what the journey is and to whom much is given, much is required, and his responsibility is much greater. He's got to work harder, he has got to do the work. But I know that one of the things I want is that he must enjoy his career, he mustn't be inhibited by who he is and what he comes from, he must love the game and do what he can. I just provide the platform for him to do what he loves."

Asked about the pressure faced by the young striker because of his family ties to the club, Motaung reveals why Simmons III, spent his youth football away from Chiefs.

"He's always under pressure and I didn't want him to play for Chiefs – and he didn't, for years. He started his career at Wanderers Warriors, done an amazing job and I must thank those people who laid the foundation but at the same time, I understand that he is a wonderful player, and he must be given his due and he must do the work and that's what important for me.

"It's a lot of pressure for him and I want him to enjoy it and do his work, it's not about me, it's about him."
