Nabi's Chiefs Situation: 'I Want Him To Stay'

A former Kaizer Chiefs defender believes Amakhosi are in the right position to start winning more trophies and gave his opinion on whether or not the Soweto giants should keep Nasreddine Nabi.

Many of Amakhosi's supporters are still celebrating the Nedbank Cup title triumph from last weekend, but there's uncertainty surrounding the future of Nabi, with reports from other media emerging that he could be heading out at the end of the campaign.

Though, the Siya crew has reported that Chiefs management is backing Nabi, as insiders close to the club indicated that the decision was already made for the Tunisian to stay at Naturena

However, Soccer Laduma has also revealed that the only way Nabi could part ways with the club, is if he himself decides to leave. Nabi's concerns could stem on whether the club backs him in the transfer market during the winter.

Initial conerns from management are believed to stem from the club's performances in the Betway Premiership. Amakhosi are in the bottom half of the table and are in danger of missing out on the top eight.

Despite these challenges, former Chiefs defender Isaac Mabotsa believes the Soweto giants can use their Nedbank Cup success as a springboard to reclaim their place as the cup kings of local football.

"We are still celebrating. It’s a good achievement after so many years without a trophy. We wanted a team like Chiefs to win trophies, and this can give them a good boost for them to challenge for more trophies going forward," Mabotsa told Soccer Laduma.

"With Nabi, I have read on social media about him leaving. I don’t know if it’s true, but he did say that he needs support from management to get the players he wants. I want him to stay. He really achieved a milestone of winning the Nedbank Cup for Chiefs. Obviously, it will depend on the outcome of the meeting management has with him, if they agree. You can see that he likes to use the youngsters, so it’s good for South African football. Hopefully, this can be a stepping stone to winning more cups and hopefully they can challenge for the league."

Amakhosi will be back in action when they take on Sekhukhune United at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
