Ndlanya: Too Late For Chiefs To Appoint A Coach

As DStv Premiership clubs enter the offseason, nearly all teams have their coaching positions secured, but Kaizer Chiefs are still unsettled at the moment.

The club is still on the hunt for a new head coach as interim coach Cavin Johnson will not retain the post. With the offseason already a month in, the lack of a permanent coach has raised concerns among club insiders and fans alike.

In an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma, former Amakhosi striker Pollen Ndlanya expressed his concerns about the club's delayed decision-making process.

"Chiefs should have had a coach by now. It's too late not to have a coach at this stage if you look at how poorly they performed last season. You know there is very little time to do much with a new coach, as apart from the offseason, there is the Euro 2024 where most people will be busy with and when they come back it will be late to appoint a coach. But you know, Chiefs are secretive and maybe they already know who the coach is and when he will be here. But I think it's too late now," Ndlanya told Soccer Laduma.

The former Bafana Bafana striker also highlighted the importance of the preseason period for a new coach.

"Time is not on their side. The new coach would need at least three months in preseason training to acclimatise himself with the players and the environment. In that time he would know which players are staying, which ones are going and who to bring in. But if he comes in late he won't have time to do all that and the team will have another bad season. We don't want that. They should have had a coach by now," Ndlanya observed.

The urgency for Chiefs to appoint a new coach cannot be overstated. With preseason already underway and the clock ticking towards the new season, the new coach's ability to integrate and strategise will be crucial.

The longer the delay, the less time the coach will have to prepare, potentially impacting the team's performance in the upcoming season.
