Sekhukhune Monitoring Khune Situation

Sekhukhune Monitoring Khune Situation

While there seems to be confusion between Kaizer Chiefs and Itumeleng Khune over whether the veteran goalkeeper is retiring or not, Sekhukhune United are believed to be monitoring the situation closely.

Amakhosi appeared to hand Khune his final match against Polokwane City in front of their home fans after they announced at the start of the season that his current contract would be his last as an Amakhosi player.

The 36-year-old appears to be under the impression that the gesture was a mere appreciation for his 25 years of service and believes that there was room to negotiate a new contract at the end of the campaign. Khune has made no secret of his desire to play for at least four more years until his 40th birthday, emulating the feats of Italian great Gianluigi Buffon.

With no clarity between the Ventersdorp-born goalkeeper and his boyhood club, Sekhukhune United are believed to be monitoring the player's situation ready to pounce on Khune should he decide to part ways with Amakhosi.

Babina Noko are currently on the lookout for a new coach and have shown that they are a safe landing place for former Chiefs players as in the case of Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya and Daniel Cardoso.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Khune, though it is worth noting that he does have a viable option in Sekhukhune should he decide to part ways with the Glamour Boys.
