Aden McCarthy, the son of former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana defender Fabian McCarthy has responded to calls from the club's supporters to be promoted to the Amakhosi first team.
The young centre-back, calm, composed on the ball with decent passing ability has been impressive in the Amakhosi reserve side and played a key role when they clinched their second Diski Shield title Saturday.
Chiefs defeated Stellenbosch FC 2-0 in the final at Mpumalanga Stadium in Hammersdale on Saturday afternoon.
Chiefs star midfielder Mfundo 'Obrigado' Vilakazi and captain Mduduzi Shabalala were on target, while McCarthy was rock solid, marshalling the defence as they kept a clean sheet.
McCarthy was included in the first team squad last season and was an unused substitute in Amakhosi's 2-0 win in a league clash against Sekhukhune.
"I love seeing things like that, people seeing my good performances. It shows that other people are watching me," McCarthy told the media in Hammersdale.
"But I can't really comment on the fans' call to be promoted to the first team. It is God's timing, that's how I take it, I just work hard, keep putting in the work and wait for the call. But I am always knocking on the door. I am trying to do the job."
Meanwhile, Chiefs reserve side coach Vela Khumalo, smiling from ear to ear said that McCarthy, Shabalala, and Wandile Duba will slowly be integrated into the first team as they have shown they have what it takes to play in the big league.
McCarthy will take part in the 2022 Varsity Football in the colours of Wits University.
