The story

Thembinkosi Lorch has been Wydad Athletic's top performer at the FIFA Club World Cup, with his goal against Juventus on Sunday adding gloss to his brilliant form.

Wydad Athletic Club may have endured consecutive defeats at the tournament, but Lorch emerged as a player who can hold his head high.

The 31-year-old attacker has been a standout performer for the Moroccan team, delivering impressive performances despite the losses. He shone in Wydad's 4-1 defeat to Juventus on Sunday and their 2-0 opening match loss to Manchester City.

Lorch's spike in form has enticed fans on the Twitter/X timeline to tip him for a return to the Bafana Bafana set-up for the first time since 2022.

Nyoso's best moment in the colours of Bafana came during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Egypt, where he delivered the knockout blow to the hosts in the quarter-final with a memorable late goal.

Lorch has rediscovered some of his best form since joining Wydad on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns, and plenty of fans feel he's ready to contribute to Bafana Bafana's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification efforts.
